Chikari Yaen
Personality: Bright and opinionated, Chika is a fun loving care free spirit. She has a very strong and sharp personality that can challenge any person of any size. Chika is quick witted, smart, observant and energetic to a fault. However, under her cute exterior, she has a nasty little temper that can bring out the worst in her, and she can be down right spiteful if someone crosses the line with her. She can be sarcastic and mean at times, downright cruel in some cases. Yet, it is her nature to be somewhat transparent in her emotions, wearing them upon her sleeve, and can be a bit childish. She does not beat around the bush and is honest, which can be good in some case, bad in others when she delivers it in a devastatingly brutal manner.
Although she's brash and a big mouth, especially when it comes to her own opinions, Chika is truly a loyal companion and loving friend. She'd do anything for those she cares for, even risk her own life. Chika forms attachments to people she deems fun easily, and can and will become dependent on them, as she has become with Cereth. It may not seem like she likes someone with her attitude at times, but she doesn't show it through snuggly affections all the time, unless you are bribing her with sweet treats that is. Despite her downfalls she does act as a sort of conscience for Cereth and has been a good presence in his life since he left home. Of course she does give him a good thwop on the noggin when he gets too out of line, particularly when in his lusty mode.
History: Chika was born on the continent of Thelahar, in some remote forest near the mountains. One day she and her best friend Flick had been pulling a small prank on some people in a village. However things went terribly awry and Chika was captured, placed in a metal cage. She tried to escape more than once, but the bars were tough and the lock sturdy. Chika was sold off to a group of traveling merchants, where she remained with them for about two years. Being poked at in her cage by children became a great annoyance, and one day Chika stabbed a boy in the eye with her tail for yanking on her wing. The boy didn't lose his eye, but she was deemed a little devil for it. The boy's family wanted her destroyed, however, her owner managed to sell her off before they could do it themselves. So she was sold once again, this time to an alchemist.
She was kept as an experimental 'pet' for more than a year. One day the alchemist was killed by an assassin, who had apparently been hired by another alchemist to dispose of his competition. Disguising herself as a bird with her illusion magic she was released by the assassin while he pilfered the alchemist's items.
Once freed Chika planned to never enter into human establishments again, for her fear of being placed into captivity again was immeasurable. She returned to the forests, and attempted to find her way home. However Thelahar is a dangerous place to travel, with plenty of natural predators, and she had no idea how to get home. Chika was free, but she was lost, afraid and alone.
One day, just after beating a squirrel senseless for attempting to steal her lunch, a handsome young male human came chasing a pretty girl through the woods, asking her if she wanted a big strong hunky man, flexing his muscles and flashing her pretty smiles. If two humans were close by that there was a village not too far away, and that meant trouble.
However, Chika's curiosity got the best of her and she watched them with fascination. Inevitably she was unable to resist, and decided to play a prank on them. After all, humans deserved to get it stuck to them with what they'd put her though. So while he was in pursuit of the pretty girl Chika disguised herself as a rabid demon dog, jumping out of the bushes and growling. She scared him witless, though his prospect didn't catch the act. Cereth discovered her ploy when her spell fell off from lack of concentration, after all his horrified face was too damned funny. Having been held in captivity for so long her pranking was rusty as well as her magic skill.
Realizing she'd been caught she zipped up into the trees, hiding behind some branches. Surprisingly no rocks came whizzing through the leaves, or the sound of clamoring up the trunk, not even the shout a horrible name... he just stood up, laughed and then called for her to do it again. This puzzled her to no end. Curiously she asked him why. He explained if he pretended to defeat a fake demon he could win the girl had been chasing.
Chika laughed at him, and asked why she should help a human. Cereth smiled and replied with a care free charming grin, "Why not? It'll be fun." For some reason Chika found this human fascinating, though she promptly denied him his request. "Help a human, how stupid! Go suck a frog!" But from that point on Chika began to follow him around, her curiosity getting the best of her, even daring to sneak into the human town to see what he was up to. He was a pervert, there was no doubt about that, but he was an amusing human, funny to watch, and also see him pull his scams. It was like watching a very large mephit at work! With some courage Chika approached him, and struck a deal with him. She gets to travel with him and help in his scams as his partner, but, he was to never treat her as a pet or attempt to put her in a cage. Cereth agreed immediately, and they shook hands—or rather she shook his index finger as the pact was made.
That is how Chika became friends with a human for the first time. They've traveled together from that point on, scheming and plotting their next act of foolery. In recent times Chika has made friends with several other people, including a Halfling named Loni. Despite their oil and water disposition, she finds the Halfling woman just as amusing as her human companion, although she would never admit it.
