Loni
.:Basic Information:.
Name:Mindy G
Character Name: Loni Brandybuck
Alias/Nickname: N/A
Race: Halfling
True Age: 20
Apparent Age: N/A
Sex: Female
Height: 3'
Weight: 42 lbs
Hair Color/Style: Thick, ringleted dark brown hair which falls just past her shoulders. It shines with copper highlights in the sun and is usually worn tied back in a scarf.
Eyes: Bright, deep periwinkle blue in colour, framed by thick, dark lashes and gently almond shaped.
Marks/Scars/Tattoos: A tiny, thin scar no bigger then an inch long above her left eyebrow, very faint. Not usually noticeable, it was passed on by a injured hawk she was nursing when younger.
Physical Appearance: Like all Halflings, she is very short but of a slightly more toned build then most of her stout Race from so much travelling. In particular, she has well developed thighs and full hips, a flat stomach and plump breasts for such a tiny figure. Her arms are defined in the upper limb, with elegant, long fingered hands. Overall, Loni has a mature, womanly figure. Pale in complexion, with rosy, flushed cheeks, she appears healthy and brimming with life.
Occupation/Class: Bard
.:Secondary Information:.
Philosophy: "May thae path be smooth und’r me feet, may thae trees shadin’ me tall an’all thae taverns welcome me in!"
Magic Schools: None
Carried Possessions: More often then not, one will find a beautifully hand-carved ocarina in the purse pouch on her belt. Too small for anyone bigger then a Halfling to play, it is just a little larger then her palm and made of mahogany wood. Carved into its surface is a tiny mural of deer running through the forest. Her prized possession, she never lets it out of her sight, even sleeping with it under her pillow at night.
Around her neck, on a leather thong, Loni also wears a little, iron ring which was her father’s wedding band. Scratched, scuffed and tarnished, it is a plain and an unassuming item which she keeps with her to remind herself of him.
Clothing and Armor: The Halfling wears her mass of mahogany ringlets back off her face with a honey-coloured head scarf tied around her forehead and knotted at the nape of her neck, leaving her clear, blue eyes on show with a few trendils often falling loose. A mutton, short-sleeved dress of the same amber colour hugs her petite figure, its square neckline sitting under the bust, showing a white blouse underneath stretching tight across her bosom. Her father’s wedding band on its leather thong always sits snuggled just at the top of the fabric.
Her arms are left bare down to the wrists where she wears a pair of no-nonsense, leather fingerless gloves made for work on her hands. The flare of the dress barely reaches the tops of her thighs, a pair of lighter beige breeches cladding her little legs. A leather belt is always around her waist and clipped to it is a square knapsack which rests on the back of her right hip. As big as a large book and as thick it is ideal for her personal possessions, such as her sling, her money pouch and even room for spare clothing.
Wood-cutters boots are laced up tightly on her small legs-- humans sizes, they had perhaps reached mid-calf on their much taller owner but the shoes now reach just under her knees. They are capped with scuffed metal toes which are heavy and solid, meant for durable wear.
Weapons: Not usually found carrying weapons, she has a little 3” boot knife stuffed inside one boot in case of emergencies. She is also very good with her sling, a leather pouch fastened with lengths of sinew for flinging rocks. She keeps it wrapped in an oiled cloth in her hip satchel.
.:Personal Information:.
Likes: Animals of all kinds, hearing new songs, poems or rhymes, ale and beer, blue flowers, forests and playing her ocarina. She likes arguing with Chika the mephit and flirting with Cereth. Loni also loves to have pint and sing with Palev.
Dislikes: Utterly despises anyone making fun of or underestimating her because of her height. Or her accent. She also isn’t very fond of horses or riding. She hates it when Cereth flirts in front of her.
Merits: Loni has a beautiful singing voice, able to carry a high or low note and turn even a bawdy tavern tune into a captivating sonnet. She can also play a number of instruments such as her ocarina, the lute, pan-pipe and fiddle.
She has a good memory too, especially when it come to songs and rhymes. She can remember names well and hardly needs to be told twice. Her mind’s eye is as good as a painter’s canvas, she only has to visit somewhere once and she can describe it down to detail. Handy for a travelling bard. This Halfling also speaks a few Dwarven dialects and common Elsyven.
Flaws: Loni has a short fuse and fiery temper when provoked. She will often rant for hours over the tiniest matter to upset her and can be jealous, spiteful and irrationally mean when in these tantrums. Beware this Halfling’s ire, for her diminutive size, she is as fierce as a rabid mastiff. Her insatiable curiosity has also landed her in trouble before today; she will always take one more look, dare to touch just one last time or take a few steps down that branching path to peek where it leads. Loni is also self-conscious about her height, and often tries to make up for it by taking on tasks which are almost impossible for her to prove her worth to others. Whether standing and fighting against a troll or climbing to the highest branch, more often then not, it gets her into strife.
Worst Fear: Loni can’t swim, never being taught, and therefore she is afraid of bodies of water. Although nervous, she can handle small depths such as bath tubs and shallow creeks, but anything as big as a pond or lake terrifies her too much to even go near the bank. She had a nasty experience as a little girl when she fell in a mill pond at Meadow Shire and was sucked under by the wheel. She almost drowned if not for her neighbour who dived in to save her.
Personality:For such a small being, Loni has a passionate personality bigger then most Humans. Outwardly she tries to keep up a cherry and audacious disposition, come what may. She is honest, intelligent, has a brave heart and is a loyal friend to those she cares for. This demeanour can hide a sensitive girl who wears her emotions on her sleeve, easily hurt. Loni’s emotional reflex to anything which upsets or frightens her is normally sarcasm or anger. When she thinks no one is looking, she can be a little depressed and serious.
History:
Growing up in the rural Halfling village of Meadow Shire, Loni is the only child of Flora and Hamish Brandybuck. She spent her youth like most children in the Shire, fishing at the rivers, wandering through the countryside and learning the trades of her parents. Loni was also known for her beautiful singing voice, learning to play a few traditional instruments from her father, a professional bard. Before she was even ten years old she was being requested to sing and birthday, wedding and baby celebrations in not only Meadow Shire but the surrounding villages. Often she sang with her father, their voices perfectly complimenting each other.
Unfortunately, her father was killed by bandits when he was robbed coming home from performing in a near by city, failing to return. When his body was found and brought back to Meadow Shire, Loni sang at his funeral. Her mother gave her his wedding band to wear around her neck, so she would always remember him.
Soon after, she left Meadow Shire and began travelling with her uncle, Wyrel. A wizard in training who had collected a few different Magite skills while travelling across Calamia, he agreed to go adventuring with her.
They parted ways when she was sixteen, Wyrel became an apprentice to a great wizard in Tosarik and stayed on to learn more magic. Loni continued to wander to find new places and meet new people. From time to time she visits him in the great Dragoon city or wanders back Meadow Shire way to tell her mother of her tales.
Generally the small Bard travelled from town to town on her own, until one morning she was snatched off the road by a group of bandits, some with unsavoury tastes towards young girls. Strung up by her ankles in a tree she was headed for a painful outcome when she was 'saved' by the dreaded Kain who seemed to come from nowhere!
Thankfully for Brandybuck it was not Kain on the path but actually the con-artist duo of the human swordsman Cereth and his Earth mephit partner Chika using a clever disguising illusion. Instantly besotted with the human man as her saviour, Loni accompanied them on the road thereafter.
Shortly after, when the rag-tag group encountered the small village of Eldon’s Hill, Loni added another comrade to her travelling party: one she would soon find she had many traits in common with. The robust cleric named Palev stumbled into the inn where the Halfling was trying to get some dinner and a pint, consequently stumbling into her friendship. With the love of beer in common and a good sense of humour between them, Loni took to the cleric quickly. However, she made the mistake of being in the same place at the same time with the blind demon Ashtoreth and the attention this being gathered enticed a mob which forced the group to split up and flee.
Loni and the Dwarf Glom took off to the woods for the night, managing to avoid their pursuers, bickering all the way. By the morning, they had been reunited and glad to find that her new-found friends were well enough for the incident. The Bard’s travels with the new fellowship continued, through an assortment of small villages and hamlets, Loni’s efforts to get the tall, blue-eyed Cereth to notice her futile all the way.
She has stuck with them, however, out of an affection she would vehemently argue the existence of were anyone to accuse her. She still wanders and she still manages to get herself into trouble seemingly at every turn, but now she no longer does so alone…
