For the most part Gaus is an easy fellow to get along with; he likes to talk and is generally knowledgeable, observant and smart. On the other hand Gaus is also cautious, and will keep information and thoughts to himself if he feels it is imperative to do so. He is no idiot after all.
He has very few annoyances with people, finding that he can get what he wants or needs from others with a chipper attitude and a smile vs. being a cranky, cold and crass jackass. Of course if need be he can be a crude man, and is not afraid to speak his mind when need be. He is by far no social recluse and genuinely tries to enjoy (or make the best of) the company of those around him, even if they may be less savory. This isn't to say he isn't a smart-ass of sorts for he certainly can be.
Of course Gaus has some things that bother him, like people who are excessively silly in nature or whiny about their lot in life. Gaus believes if you don't try to improve your world then nothing will ever change. Not that he wishes to save the world, after all he is only one man, but he'd like to think he can accomplish things and make a stake for himself in it if he at least tries.
Gaus is in all respects an accomplished rogue, but he rebukes the common misconception that all rogues are petty pick pockets. He is educated, witty as well as resourceful, smart and cunning, which he feels sets him apart from the public's perception of a rogue. Oh sure, he can be downright sneaky and stealthy like most rogues, but he feels he's different and holds himself to higher standards. However, Gaus has never really settled on a profession, rather sticking with his ‘Jack of all trades, master of none' sort of attitude, using what he does learn to get odd jobs wherever he goes.
Basic History:
Gaus is of humble origins; his parents were a common family living in the city of Belonche. Gaus's mother died of illness when he was five and his father didn't have the means to take care of him, so he was orphaned and placed in the city's boy's training school when he was six. He spent the next twelve years of his life there. The school was a part of the city's garrison, and so Gaus became really familiar with the workings of the military. He wasn't the best student, but he was intuitive and observant, and genuinely liked to learn. All boys at this school were typically groomed for military duty, and Gaus was no exception. Gaus began to take interest in fighting skills in his late teens and began to train in the use of a short sword and dagger. Gaus was later recommended to a new instructor, who would eventually become his rouge training mentor.
After graduation Gaus worked as a secretary and informant for his new mentor. The game of houses was always afoot in Belonche, and so Gaus was always on some form of job. His primary tasks were typically infiltration and reconnaissance, though he's had other tasks mingled in his resume. He avoided military drafting for the war with Rashnal when his boss was moved east into Cissendyn as a subordinate to the emissary for the King, and Gaus was to go with him as one of the emissary's body guards. There he got to hone his skills further, dipping into spying and intrigue a bit, and even began the laborious and intensive study of magite to enhance his skill set.
Gaus eventually left his mentor and position when he asked too much of him – his mentor wanted him to kill the emissary and frame Rashnal for the attack. Gaus wanted nothing to do with it and made sure to leave before anything could be pinned on him. So Gaus struck out on his own and traveled for some time in the northern countries, staying well away from the war between Graisheine and Rashnal. Despite this he still kept his eyes and ears open, as information could very well lead to a decent paying job. After many years abroad Gaus had finally returned to his home nation after the war's end, only to get thrust into the chaos when the demons attacked Rashnal. Gaus hasn't been lacking for work since, taking up mostly mundane jobs, and has currently taken a temporary residence in Duranth.
