Player: Lola
Character Name: Kasineira Marcellus
Alias/Nickname: Kas
Race: Human; Thelaharan
Age/Date of Birth 23 / Sunreign 17th, 3096 ADW
Apparent Age: N/A
Sex: Female
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 155lb
Hair Color/Style: Shades of brown varying from a rich, warm colour to a dark brown almost bordering on black. Usually worn in a long braid over her left shoulder with blue ties entwined throughout for work or travel, it cascades of its own accord down her back for relaxed environments. On rare exceptional occasions, twists are made to have the entirety rest on top of her head. No matter what efforts are made, her bangs always fall to cover the left side of her face.
Eyes: Grey in colour, her eyes are wise but guarded. They let an onlooker know that, inside, she is laughing at some special tidbit of knowledge gleaned from conversation, but it is unlikely that she will share it.
Marks/Scars/Tattoos: Numerous minor scars on her hands from mishaps on the farm, and a small but noticeable scar on her left cheek from falling from her horse as a child. One tattoo is in the middle of her upper back of a flower set inside a crescent moon. A second one lies on her inner right wrist of a rune with familial significance. It is the seal of her family given to her at a young age by her parents; three twists in an almost triangular shape. She almost always hides this with wristbands to hide her connection with them.
Physical Appearance: Of a strong build, Kas is neither thin nor large. Chores and a love for exciting day-long excursions have kept her in shape. She is beautiful. Despite brilliant, bright eyes always hiding mischief, high cheekbones, a cute, childlike nose, a well-formed pink mouth constantly quirked to one side in a half- smile, and fair, freckled skin, however, she is able to still appear average. She does this by wearing only comfortable and practical clothing that hides her gracefully strong female frame. Due to her size and character, many find her an imposing figure and rarely approach her first. Unfortunately, much of Kas' carefully concealed personality breaks through every now and then when she succumbs to a bout of clumsiness.
Occupation/Class: Bard/Spy
Magic/Magite: Illusion
Carried Possessions: Underneath her clothing, lies a necklace and charm. A simple silver circle with old runes engraved upon it, this was once the necklace Kas' ancestral grandmother (it is unsure how far down the line it was) made for her daughter to keep her safe. It is no magical safety net; only a good luck charm with sentimental value. A lute is always seen close to her hand. How else would she earn her livelihood?
Clothing and Armor: For footwear, comfortable black leather boots with only the slightest heel protect her legs up to just under her knees. Above this, thick, grey-blue wool pants billow out from the boots to tighten around the hips, and are held in place by a large black leather belt with the buckle to one side. The closest thing to armor on Kas' person is her deep royal-blue corset, lined by thick leather and boned with steel, laid overtop her long-sleeved, sky-blue cotton shirt. Around each palm and forearm Kas has wrapped the same material her corset is made of, allowing her fingers free to play her lute. Four inches (from the wrist up) is protected by steel bands underneath the cloth. There are no outer markings to hint at where she came from, but there is tiny embroidery about the collar of her shirt in grey-blue thread depicting leaves and wind.
Weapons: It is well known that Kas carries knives. The trouble is spotting and counting them. Most are hidden, but two are very evident. One is hung from her belt on each hip.
Likes: Animals, stories, excitement, fire, nature, warm weather, social drinking, intelligent people, strong and/or funny men, adventure
Dislikes: Petty and/or dull people, boredom, winter, repetition, incorrectness in herself or others, flute music, bad singers
Merits: Loyal, Intelligent, Lucky, Dependable, Logical
Flaws: Blunt, Idealistic, Indecisive, Impatient, Paranoid, Slightly Lustful, Overly Curious, Just short of Emotionless, Has difficulty telling the full truth, Stubborn.
Worst Fear: Small Spaces, Water, Moths
Personality: Kas is the most loyal person anyone could ever want to befriend and she will always be there for those lucky few. Unfortunately, it is difficult to truly and completely befriend her. Her thrill at discovering something new has caused her to rack up a great many acquaintances, but few people who have earned the kind of friendship that she has to offer. She will always try to understand both sides of any issue, and will use her intellect to discover which side has more merit despite the length of time that it takes. Once she has made a decision, it is unlikely that her opinion will ever change unless more evidence is provided to the contrary. She does not suffer fools lightly and will undoubtedly tell them that they are such in the most efficient and manner possible, which is often extremely humourous for observers. Always searching for the next great excitement, Kas has very little patience for anything that does not grab immediately at her interest. She is able to appreciate the physical appearance of men and ignore their flaws, much to her own embarrassment. The trick with Kas is to always ask the most direct questions possible. If she does not want to give information, it will not be given. Oh, she will reply and it will be an honest reply, but if she can twist words and meanings, she will do so. She is not given to staying in one place or one station. Thus, she finds it difficult to settle down for long with the same person or people and has yet to do so. The greatest difficulty that Kas continues to face is the conflict between her personality and her logic. She loves the life of a bard; traveling, meeting new and exciting people, living on a day-to-day basis with the chances of new experiences every day. However, she is aware of the impracticality of this life and has to suppress her irritation with certain illogical or just plain stupid people that she must encounter every day.
History: Kasineira was born to a family of little financial means and only the slightest of family reputation. The fourth child, and only girl, of seven children, Kas was somehow spoiled despite the lack of means. Perhaps this was because her parents saw her as a means to an end. If she were to marry rich, then the family would be saved. A petty goal, but not an uncommon one.
Kas became wise to her parents' plan early on – maybe when she was twelve years old – and soon realized her brothers were in on it. Well, if they wanted to play that game, then so could she. Kas soon became the quietly rebellious type; she read during nearly all of her spare time, and used the rest to teach herself to play the lute. By no means was she adept at it, but she was good enough to entertain the other children in the surrounding estates and the lower-born peasants in her village. This almost made her completely undesirable, for, she had few skills in social conduct and appeared to willfully ignore proper decorum. This infuriated her parents. They tried many things to discontinue her "disruptive ways" as they called them. Some involved solitary confinement in her room, which was discontinued when they realized that in order to marry her off, she would have to make public appearances to eligible suitors, and being separated from her pastimes, which only made her more stubborn and unreasonable. She was a willful child with an imagination and ambition to live her life her way. They barely stood a whisper of a chance.
Four years passed since she first discovered the plot, and she had enjoyed those years. Not only was she spiting her ambitious family, but she was learning and being entirely absorbed into the tales that she read. These were the legends of days long gone where families were sacred and women married for love and adventure rounded every corner. Quickly, this became the life that she wanted to lead. The decision was not made until she was eighteen that she would leave. The choice and its analysis of benefits and disadvantages would have taken longer except for the fact that the day coincided with another event. Apparently, she was not as undesirable for a wife as she thought. While she had made herself unfriendly and difficult, she was still beautiful, and it soon came to her attention that some men refused to move past it. So, she had been approached with an offer of marriage. Her parents and brothers were thrilled. She was not. Declining in the most offensive manner she knew how (she had read many tales of less than honorable characters), Kas left. At first, she wandered as far as she could away from home, staying in small villages, playing at taverns to earn a night's shelter and food. She still was no exceptional player, but each night after a performance, she would retire to the measly accommodations she had earned that evening and practice. Each night she got a bit better. But she was a smart girl. She knew that this was not an ideal life. And she knew that it only provided her limited security. Not to mention that it was only moderately exciting; living on her own, not knowing where she would sleep the next night, what or if she would eat, how many young men would have to be discouraged by the threat of a knife blade.
So, she stepped out and made a new plan. To be honest, it was not her idea at first. A tavern owner had noticed a trend in previous evenings that led to the continuous destruction of his tables and other possessions. However, he was unable to ever determine which of his patrons began the tussles. He had asked Kas to listen to conversation in between songs and stories for any signs of trouble. He had paid well when she had provided the information that caught these men. It was a less than dramatic beginning to her spying career, but Kas was not about to complain. It was fun. It provided well. And it gave her a chance to try something new. Besides, her skill for deceit appeared to outweigh her skills with the lute, not that that was much of a claim.
Since then, she has wandered. The few friends she had become close to – while they were also wanderers with whom Kas would only cross paths with occasionally – had all had something teach her. With a love of learning, Kas soon picked up a few handy tricks with Illusion magic from the woman she would consider her closest of friends; a fellow bard and spy. Her first lover had taught her a limited range of hand-to-hand and knife combat. The rest of her friends were a sprinkling of minstrels and bards who happily taught her the tales and songs of their homelands. Kas enjoyed the twists and turns of her life. Her spattering of basic skills in such a variety of talents were hardly the means to cause much admiration of her peers, but it was all new and different. What little excitement she found, she welcomed with open arms, but she has yet to encounter what she left home for.
