When a fight does break out, he tries to avoid hurting people, unless they are ugly, he humiliates them even more.
His unfortunate weakness is around women. Big women, small women, women of all shapes and sizes, he will try to impress them. It gets worse when the woman is beautiful and appreciative of his acts. The other he has a soft spot for are the old women, they remind Silver of the old woman who helped him after he was caught in a terrible accident, he helps them when he can, carrying groceries, offering a hand and even learned to sew from them once.
However, his irresponsibility is an act. Despite all his actions, Silver always keeps careful consideration of any dangerous repercussions it may have on other people. And he avoids getting children involved.
History: Lazaren Argent was born second in the Argent family, but the first male child, from an early age, he was told of his parent's expectations of him. He would grow up, train with his father, become a soldier, have a wife and settle down, and have kids. But Lazaren turned out a lot differently from what his parents wanted. At an early age, he already exhibited signs that his life was going to be less than ordinary. His hair started to turn white by the age of 5, and gained an almost metallic sheen by 7. According to Lazaren's father, it was something that occurred in the family line once every 3 generations, Lazaren took it as a sign that his life was not as pre-planned as his father wanted, and started to follow his heart more than his father's laws, that got him into a lot of trouble with his father.
However, his childhood was a happy one, despite his occasional reprimands. It was at this time he earned his nickname “Silverhair”. His father watched as his son grew up on a completely different path. Silver would come home with scrapes and bruises, but nothing more serious than that. It seemed to his father that Silver was using his brain more than his fists, and decided to put him to a test. His father got two bullies to try and beat up Silver, and watched what would happen. Seeing the first bully, Silver talked his way out of a fight by pointing out that should the bully lose, it would mess his reputation. However, the second bully was not easily dissuaded from his resolve, so Silver's dad stood by and watched as his son fought the larger boy. He watched as his son probed the defenses of his opponent trying to find a weak spot. When he could not, he just moved around to avoid the slower strikes of the bully, who eventually tired out allowing Silver to defeat him. That wrapped up the father's decision.
The very next day, Silver's father decided to train his son in the art of warfare. His father was the head of the town's militia, having served in the Navorian army years ago before he settled down. Handing his son a wooden sword, Silver's training started with the basic strokes. Along with swordsmanship, his father taught him how to read and write. For the next 6 years Silver studied under his father, learning the letters and art of fighting. While he did not pack as much punch as his father does, he made up for it in speed. He was a lot faster in footwork and dodging, able to dart in and break through defenses. So his father trained him in using his speed and agility. His wit was trained by squabbling with his sisters most of the time, who were smart lasses in their own right. As his sisters grew into women, Silver found himself more and more protective of them, which got him into more fights with them. Over time, it allowed Silver to learn the proper rules of etiquette with women. By 15, he had courted a few girls, but never got serious with them. That was until he met Charity. She came into town with a merchant caravan that year, and stayed in the town while her father conducted business for a few months. While she was there, she and Silver stuck a close friendship; she would answer his every witty remark with her own, engaging him in mental puzzles. Finding a lot of things in common, they grew closer and closer, as they explored their feelings towards each other. But Charity left all of a sudden one day, even her father did not know where she went. Up until now, Silver had no idea where Charity went. The only thing she left him was a small coin purse, Silver keeps it still and uses it, without knowing that Charity gave it to him as a clue to her whereabouts.
Silver insisted that he be allowed to look for her all over Calamia, but his father was adamant about allowing him to wander around unsupervised, with the chaos that was ensuing with the war effort, going out alone and untested was tantamount to suicide. But luck was with Silver as the head guard of the merchant caravan, Berem Oakenstaff was around. Silver pleaded him to allow him to join the caravan until they reached the city and then he would be off on his own. Berem disagreed, pointing out to Silver his inexperience and youth would land him in a lot of trouble that he will not be able to extricate himself out of. However, he countered, if Silver's father would approve, Silver would be taken in by Berem's group, the Gilded Ryn as an apprentice, and would allow them to oversee Silver's continued training and care, for a modest fee of course. Knowing when he was on the losing end, he reluctantly agreed. The negotiation details bored Silver, whose enthusiasm made him quickly pack his belongings, had he stayed; he would've known that his father knew the people of the Gilded Ryn during his stint as a soldier in the Navorian Army, But with the impetuosity of youth and the eagerness associated with it, Silver left his village the very next day with the merchant caravan, squired to the Gilded Ryn.
Silver's first real fight occurred not so long after they left town, a group of ragtag highwaymen decided to try their luck against the caravan's guards. Silver's inexperience got the better of him against the highwaymen's desperation. Unable to fend off even just one attacker, Silver found himself in a precarious situation as a second highwayman came in to attack him. A shout from Berem brought Silver to his senses, falling back to the drills his father had taught him, Silver slowly fought back against the highwaymen, using the caravan's walls to protect him from attacks from the sides and rear. After a long hard fight, Silver found himself winning, and with a final swing, killed his first human. With adrenaline still coursing through his body, they were able to drive off the highwaymen. It was then Silver stopped and gagged and threw up. Berem approached the boy and told him that was the lot of those who lived by the sword, and that he can still go back home if he wished. Silver used the night to think about it, and by the next morning, he told Berem that he wished to stay and find Charity. Berem nodded and smiled, welcoming Silver to the Gilded Ryn. Berem would introduce Silver to one of the heads of the Gilded Ryn, Aldread, who commented that Silverhair was too long a name, and suggested an alternate. “Silver”. At first, Silver was only allowed on missions where several Rynnites were present so as to keep an eye on him, to make sure that he would not make a fool of himself or others.
It would take a year before Silver was fully inducted as a member of the Gilded Ryn and was given the Gilded Ryn token. Silver was usually one of the few suspects when it came to broken hearted women in the towns they would visit, but then again, Silver would not comment about these issues, keeping silent and smiling all the time. During that year when they were apprenticing Silver, his skills with the sword slowly grew, and so did his sharp wit. Berem would go with Silver on one last mission, one that took Silver across the sea. During a freak sea storm, their boat was struck by lightning, separating the two men. Silver was found by a kindly old lady who lived near the shores of Northsea. The old woman took a dazed and confused Silver in and treated him as she would a lost child. Silver's trauma took a few months to recover from, he would look at the sea with some dread. The old woman used the time to teach Silver some other things, what herbs to treat injuries and how to bind wounds. One day, the old woman saw Silver polishing the sword of their family, and stopped the young man. Recognizing the magite stones as such, she trained him how to use the stones as she would expect a warrior to use them. Silver promised to visit the old woman every year on the day he was found shipwrecked and went back to adventuring. For now, he would try to find Berem and see if his old mentor is still alive, and the easiest place to start would be Calora...
