Character Classes: Performers

The slight of hand, the swivel of a hip, or the gentle strumming of a lute, the performer is a person who's skills involve in some form of artistic expressio, wether that be with magic tricks or playing a flute. They are not fighters, nor are they strategists or magi, but they are smart and often adaptive, quick witted and suave, and use their skills to outsmart opponents, to live to perform another day.

Bard

Bards are the story tellers, singers and entertainers. It is through bards that the past is understood and that heroes are remembered. Bards exist in almost every society in Calamia, and are usually welcome in most cities and taverns. They always carry one magical instrument on them, a flute, drum or lute. A bard brings forth magic from his soul, using his instruments or stories to captivate, motivate or create fear. He can cast only a small number of spells with Magite. His magic emphasizes charms and illusions over the more dramatic spells that wizards and sorcerers often use. He can encourage allies, hold his audiences rapt, and counter magical effects that rely on speech or sound. Bards have some of the skills that rogues have, although they are not as focused on skill mastery as rogues are. Bards listen to stories as well as they tell them, of course, so they have a vast knowledge of local events and noteworthy items. Most bards aren't physically that strong, so they tend to use their agility and intelligence to get them out of trouble.

Magician

The Magician combines the qualities of a wizard with the qualities of a rogue. A magician is more than just a spell caster, and he is more than a mere thief or bard that can do parlor tricks. The Magician relies on sleight of hand and illusion for his survival. Magicians can make an object "disappear" by sleight of hand or trick, but could also rely on magite to perform the same trick. The Magician's edge is his dexterity and intelligence, for performing the deft movements of the hand and of mechanical "false bottomed" boxes, mirrors, and so forth, as well as the smarts required to fool his opponents into believing what he wants them to believe. A magician is not a physical fighter are relies on their smarts and tricks to get them out of tight situations. Magicians acquire a few thief skills, like open locks, pick pockets, as well as spell casting abilities based in the illusion casting class.

Veil Dancer

Veil dancers are a unique class, using their bodies to entrance others, mystify, sooth violent hearts, or even enrage with just the swivel of their hips or elegant sway of their arms and legs. Skilled in the art of dancing and contortionism they use physical movements to entice others, their flexibility rivaling that of even the most skilled acrobat. They are avid studiers of the arts, loving music, and often being capable of playing a lute or harp. But don't mistake them for bards, for these people find no value in fairy tales or stories, although they enjoy them as any other person. They are the masters of dance, and take their art seriously. Their souls are invested in the dance, and with it comes their power. Veil Dancers are unable to use magite, for a true Veil Dancer is a master of their art and doesn't need it to accomplish a goal. Veil dancers are completely inept when it comes to your typical weapons. Yet they do have great skill with fans and chop sticks, using them for defense rather than to kill an enemy. Veil Dancers never cut their hair, even males, and so they will typically have long tresses, which they will always wear in complex hair designs, braids with elaborate beading, or in buns on top of their heads with decorative jeweled bits.
