Evidae

Evidae by Astral Deva

The Evidae are a race of elegant beings who once roamed the lands of Ishtar. But because Ishtar's landscape is changing and their largest natural enemies, the Ocaniglis, were driving them from their homelands, they are now few and far between. Although some are still native to the lands of Ishtar the majority have escaped many centuries ago to Calamia and started clans there, in untamed rural areas. They avoid most Calamian societies, preferring to keep their presence in this world private. Evidae are what some would say are related to the Centaur being that they are along the same physical lines, yet they are not. Evidae have the lower body of what appears to be an elegant legged deer and the upper torso of a man.

The torso of the Evidae is typically sinewy, some very dainty looking and others possessing a fine knit wiry muscled frame. Their bodies don't get bulky like humans, but are far more physically adapt than an Elsyven or Deshiven. All possess tufts of hair on certain sections of their torso, each having a semi-long length of hair on the bottom side of their forearm that stops at the elbow and tapers off near the wrist. A similar tuft runs from the bottom of their belly button and continues on even into their animal half ending down between their forelegs. Males will possess similar facial hair as this around the chin and jaw line, but never around the lips or nose. Their fingers are slender and long, their finger nails being black and thick.

The most striking features about the Evidae's face is their ears, nose and eyes. The Evidae have ears just like a deer, that stick out from the same point a humans would, and are typically long, size varying. Also, their noses are slitted along the sides, the nostrils being rather undefined, unlike a humans, and are rather rounded at the tips. Their face shapes vary and their eyes, a striking feature, are typically wide, round and doe-like. The reason they are so striking is that their eyes appear to be a solid color except for the pupil, and the whites are rarely seen, the color ranging in shades of brown, amber, and gray to near black. Their hair color is dependent on their ancestry, but typically are in natural shades. Their eyebrows tend to be thick as do their eye lashes. Males grow horns that resemble a deer's antlers and get larger with each year they age and can be multi-pointed, although they never grow larger than they can manage. Females grow one short set of horns from near the temples. These horns can fall off and regrow in a short period of time, females can grow a new set in a week, and males in three to four.

Their deer-like half looks much like your typical forest dweller having a smooth fur coat, short tail and slender elegant looking legs, but don't let this fool you. Their legs are powerful and they are capable of great bursts of speed and can jump rather well. But, because they are light framed they cannot wear any form of heavy armor nor are they good at carrying more than their own weight. They are adapt at climbing rocky terrain and can traverse forests easily and efficiently. Their coat depends on their lineage, being a dusty brown, beige, reddish-brown, brown or a brownish-gray. White is extremely uncommon, black is rare. Some sport white spotting on their hind quarters, and all have a lighter colored fur, typically white or beige, on their underbellies and slightly on their inner legs.

Overall an Evidae doesn't get much taller than the average human, the tallest recorded standing at 5' 9” from hoof to the top of their head, not including their horns. Females are typically shorter, and stand at the tallest around 5' 7”. The males bodies tend to be a bit thicker and more muscled. Their lifespan is typically up to seventy years of age, some surpassing to live possibly to eighty. An Evidae becomes an adult in their society at the age of fifteen.

Being that the Evidae are a social group of beings they rarely venture out from their birth societies alone. They cannot interbreed with any other race.
