FeyThe Fey are an unusual species from Israidius. Linked to nature, the Fey are born from a special species of intelligent plants called the Ethyene. The Ethyene is a living plant, possessing a spirit that is a misty and orb like in appearance. If this spirit were to die, the Ethyene would die as well. Anyone versed in the language of plants can speak with an Ethyene as well as their children, the Fey. Ethyenes can take on a physical form. To do so, the plant uproots itself and transforms into a humanoid shape. This talent allows Ethyene to move to new locations and avoid danger, but it cannot remain uprooted for too long. These plants are vine like, growing in rich soils and typically warmer climates. They have smooth ivy like leaves, which are a deep green in color with gold. When the Ethyene is in bloom it will produce large flowers, typically ten or more during a cycle. These flowers are a milky white color, but with their opalescent sheen they appear to change hue in different lights. When the flower has grown to its full size -about the size of a small melon- it will bloom. Once the petals open, curled up inside one will find a young Fey. The Fey are tiny, but have features like a human child of ten or twelve years old. Upon their backs, between the shoulder blades, are sets of semi transparent wings that glow with a soft light. There are six wing sections – a large pair on top, another medium-sized pair in the center, and a smaller, lower pair. One notable feature common to all Fey is their lack of sexual organs. The Fey are sexless. They don’t breed. Each individual is fully-grown at birth and will not grow any larger as they age. Their faces are soft featured with delicate noses and gentle little lips, yet their eyes are most striking. Not only are their eyes pupil-less they are one solid color, and are quite large, typically almond shaped. Their ears are kind of large and long, nearly the same size of their hand, which stick out slightly, almost appearing to droop a bit at the ends. The tips are not pointed, but rather slightly rounded. Fey have soft thick hair, typically long when born, and grows relatively quickly. They can cut it and put it as they like, just like any other person. The shade of hair depends on the Fey, for it can range vastly to any shade in existence. The tallest Fey stands at six inches while the shortest is five. Typically, the Fey wear nothing at all, flitting around in ‘the nude’. To them it is habitual and, because they are immune to most forms of heat and cold, seasonal changes do not concern them. Some do like to wear decorative items, finding sparkling objects, soft fabrics, and gold ideal. Fey do not eat. They derive sustenance by absorbing energy from the world around them. The amount of energy is small and causes no harm, but because the Fey depend on living beings for their survival, they prefer the company of plants, animals, and humanoids. Because of their latent ability to absorb and transform energy, the Fey can readily combine the powers of earth of spirit and bestow magic upon living things. These enchantments have very small, but beneficial effects. For example, a Fey can relieve minor pains and even some symptoms of sickness with minor healing magic. Because the Fey are so in tune with the world’s natural energies they cannot use any other form of magic. All Fey are classified as Druids. With such a different form of existence the Fey have very different emotions and thoughts compared to typical mortal beings. They are not familiar with feelings such as love or hate, at least, not in the sense other beings understand. They aren’t truly designed for such feelings. In fact, these emotions seem strange to them, and even when they are explained, a Fey often fails to completely understand. It is beyond their comprehension. Even so, the Fey are exceedingly intelligent and can learn things relatively quickly. They know how to speak and, incredibly, they can understand most languages as if by second nature. Where they excel in this aspect, they fail in written language. This skill they must gradually learn over time. The Fey are attentive and like to listen to people because of their social nature. Even if they aren’t talking, they enjoy being close to others. Some can be extremely talkative and cheerful, while others are calmer, more reserved, and observant. Their personalities are as diverse as their hair colors. They are easily frightened and quick to a tirade when provoked, but surprisingly no Fey can harbor ill will for very long. As a result, their friendly natures have been widely abused, and they are now a rare sight. Most do not leave the confines of the Sanctuary.Jeremas and Gornaz , who helped to reestablish the Ethyene within the Sanctuary after the Corruption, saved this race from extinction. On average a Fey can live for up to one hundred years. When a Fey dies their body will dissolve into a magical dust that quickly vanishes. |
