Humans

Humans are the most diverse, adaptable, and determined people among the common races. Physically full grown humans typically range in a variety of heights, some being relatively short to some being excessively tall. Their weights fluctuate from extremely thin to excessively obese, with men noticeably taller and heavier built than women. Humans are more physically diverse than any other race in Calamia, with many different sub-varieties, with different skin shades that run from nearly black to very pale, hair ranging in color anywhere between black to white and in hundreds of different textures.

Humans are often flamboyant or unconventional in their appearance, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, body piercing… the imagination has no bounds for their creativity. Humans have short life spans compared to all other races, achieving official adulthood at 16 and can live up to 100 years of age, though many only live to be about 50. Because of their short lifespan humans tend to be in a constant state of activity, for a moment may be all they have, leading other races to call them brash and unruly. Humans are capable of mixing with several other races, Elsyven being the most common, and even a few Israidian races. Humans have no particular alignment, not even neutrality. The best of the best and the worst of the worst can be found among humans.

Each sub classification of human is based on a generalization of the people in the region. Slight differences are alright, for every individual is unique. However the classification they are of lineage to should be used as a basis for their overall appearance.

Auratonan

Auratonans are people who were born in the continent of Auraton and stem from an Auraton lineage. They are the most populous human sub-variety, themselves being a hodgepodge of mixed appearances. Many other nations stem off from Auraton, which has dubbed the Auratonans the ‘foundation of humanity’. Although Auraton is comprised of many different nations there is no set commonality amongst the people. Each city or town’s people will vary greatly from one another, some share a general commonality, but overall there are no true defining markers amongst them to warrant a separate grouping. They have various colors of hair, eyes, face shapes, heights, weights, etc. Auratonans are, however, peach to tan skinned, never fair or dark skinned. They do have a slight accent, and are a sturdy, resilient people. Nearly all are not openly friendly towards other races, many being extremely prejudice, having animosity and bitter relations towards non-humans since the end of the war of Daishevar. These people actively participate in slave trading, so it is not uncommon for homes of substantial means to have a slave or many slaves. Women are not put in places of prestige or power in Auraton either, and there are practically no women who serve in the military.

Feydhran

Feydhrans inhabit the northern part of the continent Ethardowan. A race of farmers, artisans, tradesmen, soldiers and mercenaries, they have light to tan-colored skin, sharp features, with light to medium shades of hair. The majority have brown or hazel eyes, though occasionally there are gray blue eyes. They are usually between 5’5” to 6’5” tall. They have varied nose shapes and facial shapes, though diamond and heart shaped faces are most common. Men tend to have medium builds, some men having large builds. Most women tend to be slender and average in body shape, though only women in the military have the athletic builds. Feydhrans are among the best soldiers anywhere, due to their strong military foundations, making Feydhran mercenaries highly sought after. Most Feydhrans people are steadfast and devote themselves to whatever they set their minds to. Female Feydhrans are able to join the military and enjoy prestige and positions of rank. Lagunans

Lagunans are from the continent of Lagunis and are the second most populated human variety. These are a talented people, having those of various skills, from farmers and miners to bishops and magus. They are typically of average build, their heights ranging between 5' 4" to 6'. Most have typical common body shapes, rarely anyone with barrel chests or thick limbs (this is excluding weight gain). Lagunans hair colors tend to be shades of blonde, light tones of brown or reds. Their complexions tend to be light or fair. Lagunans don’t have freckles and don’t get dark tans, many often getting severe sun burns in heavy sunlight. Their eyes are usually bright shades of blue, green or hazel. Their face shapes range in oval or heart shaped, and they usually have averaged sized straight noses, though slightly wide and pointed noses aren’t unseen. In Lagunan societies women can achieve high social rankings just as men. They are generally indifferent towards other Calamian races and are not particularly prejudice. The majority of all Lagunans abhor slavery.

Meldorans

Meldorans are a small sub-category of humans, living in the far southern rural areas Auraton, in some outlying areas of Shanar and in the Wandering Heroes. They have skin tones ranging from dark tan, rich brown to almost black. They are of average height, ranging between 5’ 5” to 6’. They have brown or black hair, which can be short or long, straight and thin to thick and/or curly. Many will sport braids and beads, even men. Meldorans have brown, black or hazel eyes. Their face shapes vary, though the majority of Meldorans have prominent or wide set noses. Rarely will they have amber eyes. They are a tribal people, tending to live in close-knit independently run communities. They are simple in their means, using what they must and consider waste of any resource to be a sin. They are fine craftsmen, making various items to trade amongst their communities, and are also excellent farmers. Overall they are generally a peaceful people, remaining reclusive, though they do welcome weary travelers.

Migotian

Migotians are those who stem from the continent of Migoto. Migotians have dark straight hair, dark ebony being the most common, though browns and deep auburns are seen occasionally. Never blonde. Males rarely grow beards, though some do, typically older males. Their skin color ranges from fair to light shades of tan, all having either a light golden or olive undertone. They commonly have dark eyes, various shades of brown, though rarely they can have dark blue. Their eyes are commonly small or narrow, many hooded, and have a distinct lift to the outer corner with very little eye lid. Their face and nose shapes vary, and they range in height, the majority being between 5’ to 5’ 10”. Their body shapes are typically in the rage of petite and delicate, average, to athletic and well muscled. Their weights fluctuate much like many other sub-humans though overweight Migotians are somewhat uncommon. Not having many outside influences the Migotians are somewhat neutral towards most races. They do have well formed relations with Kojintora. The Migotians do have a strong rooted, and what many would call exotic, culture.

Shedrion

The Shedrion people are beige or ruddy skinned to dark tan, with thick locks of hair that are typically medium to dark in shade, no blonde or red shades, and varying eye colors. The majority of the people from Shedrion are of medium to large build, many men with barrel chests or thick limbs. Despite stemming from the Feydhrian people they have taken on a look of their own, many with average to broad noses, with hooked noses being somewhat common. Their faces typically are rectangular or square shaped. These people usually do have freckles on their bodies, either a light dusting to a heavy covering of them. They are on average between 5’7” to 6’3”tall. Most Shedrion are a bit rough looking. They are a tough and hardy people, given their difficult lifestyle. They do possess a sort of self born arrogance, from their figure heads to even the lowest of the social ladder.

Shanaran

Shanarans are people from the desert regions of Shanar. These are tall people, averaging between 5'8" and 7' in height, marking them the tallest humans in all of Calamia. Shanarans are dark-haired with either straight or somewhat wavy hair. Male children between the ages of 1-10 shaved off or cut their hair short except for a long lock of hair on the left of the head. Young girls of the same age wear their hair in plaits or up in a ponytail. As they got older their hair lengths vary but none have bangs. Some men shave parts of their scalp, leaving the rest of the length. Women typically grow their hair long and add pleats, beading, clips or charms, though some wear it chin length and straight. Almost all Shanarans wear a headband of some sort, those of wealth having more expensive decorative bands of metal rather than cloth. They have dark, tanned or bronze skin, and have hazel to dark brown eyes with dark long lashes. Rarely they have very piercing blue eyes, and this is usually only in houses of nobility or royalty. As a race, Shanaran are generally good-looking with sharp features, narrow noses, delicately pointed chins and elegantly shaped eyes. Tattoos are common among Shanaran, especially on the arms and backs. The majority of men shave their faces clean, though some men wear well trimmed goatees. Shanaran have very sturdy builds and are resistant to common diseases, much more so than other humans due to the harsh desert terrain that they inhabit. They are a strong and independent people, brash at times, and somewhat distrustful of outsiders.

Thelaharan

Thelaharans are slightly taller than average, ranging from 5'7" to 6'4'. They have dark hair and smooth elegant features. Their eyes are always bright and very penetrating. To the Thelaharans, knowledge is the most important aspect of life; they have extensive schooling systems and many are exceptionally intelligent. Although not particularly bad at people skills, Thelaharans tend to be arrogant or shy until they know someone. Theleharan's have a pretty strong alliance with the dwarves. Each region of Thelahar specializes in a different trade craft. For example, Sientharans are hunters, loggers, and tree farmers, Scianthans are primarily farmers and herders, while Asentians are merchants, traders, and mercenaries. Espians are the cityfolk - scholars, aristocrats, mages, nobility, and high end horse breeders.

Colidrians are a sub race of Thelaharans that live in the far north. Unlike their southern cousins, they tend to have fairer skin, eyes, and hair. Referred to as "northerns", a typical Colidrian will have blond hair and blue eyes. They're a nomadic people who raise arctic deer and fisherman who hunt walrus, seal, and whale for their oils. Ice mages are prevalent in this area since their powers are often in demand. (See Thelahar History for more detail.)

Tosaran

Tosarans are a secluded race living on the Dragon Isle, but are a strong and hardy one besides. Renowned for their connection to the dragons and the source of the mysterious Dragoons, the Tosarans are comprised of a unique cast of classes. Tosarans are a force to be reckoned with, and very well could be one of the strongest armies in the world if it weren’t for their small population. Tosarans are good-looking, and have sturdy, well-built athletic bodies and good muscle control. They range from 5’7” to 6’ 5” in height, and have very high metabolisms; an overweight Tosaran is extremely rare. Tosarans have beige skin tones, some being slightly tan, though never dark skinned. Their hair is often lighter shades, such as vibrant golden or platinum blondes, though dark shades of brown and occasionally red are not unheard of. Their eyes are almost always pale shades of blue, gray, green or violet. Being born with abnormal shades of hair and eyes are considered a sign of royalty or nobility. They have a regal look to them, with finely chiseled facial features. Tosarans are a secluded people so they have little concern for the outside world unless it affects their wellbeing. They are somewhat aloof with outsiders.

Icivian

Icivians are cold region dwellers, living in the far northern regions of Lagunis and Thelahar. They are among Calamia's largest and strongest humans, with medium to large frames, many men having very large torsos and thickly muscled bodies. Women have medium to large frames as well, never petite or dainty. They stand between 5’6” to 6’10”. They have very pale skin, ranging from fair to nearly white. They never tan. Their hair tends to be thick and wavy or curly, being placid in coloration, such as shades of blonde, grays or light dusty browns. Never dark browns, red or black. Eye color is any shade of blue to pale violet or gray, never dark and rarely green. Most Icivians are trained with weapons or other skills from the time they can walk, and are excellent warriors, huntsmen and fishers. They are a very hardy people and live in independently run colonies, with many generations of one family living within a particular colony. Because of this many marriages are often arranged outside the colonies, to ensure alliances and keep the bloodlines clean. Due to the cold terrain they inhabit they are highly tolerant to colder temperatures than most human sub-species. The males tend to grow out their facial hair and the women almost never cut their hair. Piercing their bodies or marring the body with tattoos of any type is forbidden. Men have a more dominant role in this society, the males being warriors, hunters, tradesmen and leaders, while the women take on roles such as caregivers, crafters and healers. Many tales of barbarians stem from the Icivian sub-humans.

Yavothe

These people are believed to be a myth, for they are only told of in stories. It is believed they live in the depths of the Shadowfen Wilds, but this is just rumor. But all stories are based on some form of truth. As it stands the Yavothe are among the most hated and reviled of all human types. Cannibals and savages, they are avid worshippers of the dark Gods, false Gods and/or various evil beings. They have dark placid colored bodies, their skin tones ranging from a ruddy brown to a dull dark gray. They are generally covered in tattoos from a very early age, and are commonly covered in them by adulthood. Their eyes are a strange milky white color, giving them a very savage look. Red, black and brown hair is most common.
