Syundhi

A strange and mystical race, the Syundhi are a versatile and intriguing group of people living within the realm of Israidius. With their lilting, melodious voices one would not expect them to be a startling cross of human, bird, and reptile.

The most noted features of the Syundhi are their human like bodies, which can be thin or well muscled. They are less susceptible to being over weight. The maximum height of the Syundhi is 6’ 5”, and the shortest around 5’ 7”. This human appearance extends down through the upper leg to their knees. Below the knees they have bird-like lower limbs that angle forward. From the knees down, their legs begin to scale. Then the scaling changes to a thick, lizard-like hide. At the ankle joint, they have a patch of feathers. Hard, curved talons tip the ends of each three-toed foot and they possess a long, slender, lizard-like tail.

Sharp, angular features define their face. They can have eyes of almost any color, although the orbs are narrow, slightly slanted, and almond-shape, contrasted with thick eyelashes and softly textured, feather-like brows. However, their skin is rather smooth, and, though fleshy, it is not exactly the same texture as a human’s. Usually their skin tones range from placid to pastel shades that are neither too bright nor too dark. Over certain sections of their body, particularly on and around the hands, jaw line, ears, spine, and forehead, there are patches of delicate cloudy scales that fluctuate in color.

Another unique factor in their appearance are their horns and hair. The Syundhi have no hair, but they do have a beautiful mane of feathers protruding from their crown. Much like birds, these feathers can grow long and in different patterns and styles. The color often depends upon family lineage, but they are normally bright whites or blues. Occasionally, these feathers are black or darker shades, but it’s not common. These feathers do shed, but they grow back relatively quickly. Also upon their crown, from just above their temples grow a pair of thick, short horns. They can be longer and uniquely shaped. Some horns curve back while others curve forward. Sill others curl like a ram’s horns.

Syundhi children are born featherless with short, soft talons on their feet. They grow much like human children. Their feathers come in slowly and the talons on their feet harden as they get older. Syundhi reach full adulthood at roughly twenty-five to thirty years of age, and can live up to three hundred.
