Basic Lore

Since the times of the War of Daishevar the records of mankind report numerous encounters with a strange demonic species known as the Gheildoa. The people of Calamia know little about this unique race aside from the fact that they are amongst the most commonly encountered of the Israidian races. Those who have laid eyes upon a gheildoa have said them to be a grotesque blend of man and beast.

Appearance

Gheildoa are bipedal beings and are indeed similar to the humans in terms of height and basic body structure. From the waste on up they somewhat have the appearance of a human, but that is where the resemblances come to an end. The legs of the gheildoa are a strange mixture of man and animal, quite similar to that of a goat given that the feet are always hoofed. Their flesh is thick and leathery that holds a pigmentation that could range from a dark blue or purple to even a brilliant green. A gheildoa never will have brown, black, white, or red skin.

The pupils of the gheildoa’s eyes are elongated, almost being reptilian. The coloration of their eyes is always of a dark shade. Black, red, hazel, dark blue, and purple is the most common of eye colors found.

Gheildoa do not have any hair on their body. The majority of the race is often bald. There are a few gheildoa, however, that have a skin or tentacle-like appendages that grow from the back of the head, almost resembling hair. These growths, though, are unable to be used or controlled in any matter.

On each individual, a horn or pair of horns can be found jutting from their chin that grows to about five or seven inches in length. Just above where the eyebrows would be a pair of horns that come to be around one to eight inches in length grow. Their ears are large and wide, becoming narrower when reaching the semi-rounded tip of the ear.

Thick, slightly curved, and pointed nails grow on the ends of each digit of their three fingers and thumb. While the nail is thick, they are also brittle, making them useless as weapons. A jagged and bony material protrudes from the shoulders of each gheildoa that can grow out to be from one to nearly four inches long. This bone-like substance can easily be considered sharp to many races, but seems not to bother or harm fellow gheildoa.

Breeding and Aging

Gheildoa have an average lifespan, and can live to 100 years.

12-16 (Adolescence) / 17-23(Maturity Age) / 24- 30 (Young Adult) / 31- 35 (Adult) / 36-40 (Middle Aged) / 41-55 (Prime) / 56+ (Elder)

The birthrate of the Gheildoa is considerably high, comparable to that of humans. A single female is able to conceive from one to two children at a time, with twins being fairly common. Children are born without any horns, and the horns slowly begin to grow in as they age, reaching their full size at maturity.

The bulk of gheildoa follow monogamous beliefs. Due to the abundance of the race, gheildoa are often allowed to marry whom they choose. There are times, though, that families may decide to bring forth an arranged marriage.

Humans and gheildoa can interbreed, and given the large population of both species these are the most common type of Calamian/Israidian mixed blood.

Unique Abilities/Weaknesses

Gheildoa have a slightly advanced sense of hearing, due to their larger ear structure and sensitive ear drums.

Society/Culture/Ecology

Containing the highest population numbers of all the races from Israidius, there are very few places a person will not encounter a gheildoa. They make up the brunt of the Valdharian Empire’s army. Many that live in the Sanctuary are also farmers, hunters, and fishermen.

From years of living amongst the Empire, the gheildoa have adopted many of the ways of thinking that the athdraki do. Those recruited into the army of the Empire are most deadly and do not fear to die in the name of the Empire or their Emperor. Because they are not as naturally strong as some of their fellow Israidians, the gheildoa have become a determined breed of creature, always trying to prove their worth whether it be in the field of battle or on a farm.

Gheildoa are omnivorous by nature. Even though they are able to eat either or, they do tend to enjoy the flavor of meat far more than that of fruits and vegetables. Should they be given choice, they will take meat over anything else any day. Their most favored type of meat is from the Haldyuki, a beast that is uncommon and only seen in Israidius.

Before all the wars occurred in the world of Israidius, the gheildoa were once a peaceful race. They often kept in good relationship with all of the races. After the wars in Israidius began they were forced to become that which they never had been. When the Titans united all the races it was the gheildoa who were amongst the first to be crushed beneath the rising Empire. After their defeat, the Empire recruited them into the military.

Since then the gheildoa of the old are no more. The current day gheildoa are a far fiercer and deadly race from the many years they’ve been used as warriors for the Valdharian Empire. They hold no grudges toward the Empire though, for various reasons and as well as believing it had only made their race stronger.

After the devastating event known as the Corruption occurred, the gheildoa suffered heavy losses. During their time of need, the Emperor of the Valdharian Empire, Jeremas, provided those who survived a stable home within the Sanctuary. To this day the gheildoa continue to remember that act of charity and so are forever indebted to the Empire.

The gheildoa share a common hatred for the Calamians. Humans and their allies are inferior beings that need to be eliminated in order to secure a new home for the gheildoa people.

Nearly sixty-four percent of the current demonic army consists of gheildoa.
